Description

A thriving journals program has the potential to raise the reputation and visibility of the university. What is important to consider in starting a program? What kinds of models of university publishing are there? What technical expertise is needed? This panel shares perspectives from two highly successful university publishing programs.

Karen Bjork

Karen Bjork is the Head of Digital Initiatives and Scholarly Publishing at Portland State University. In this position, she oversees initiatives that help make research and scholarship openly available and manages the University's institutional repository, PDXScholar. Karen works to educate faculty, staff, and students about open access, open education, digital publishing, copyright and fair use, and research impact. Karen holds a B.A in History from the University of Wollongong in Australia, and a M.A. in History and a M.L.I.S. from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.

Alfredo Morales Roa

Alfredo Morales Roa holds a Master of Arts in Linguistics from Instituto Caro y Cuervo, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Philology and Languages - German from Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He has experience in scientometrics as a service for university libraries and since 2018 he has served as the Director of the university press, Ediciones Unisalle. Until March 2021 he was the general secretary of the Colombian University Presses Association. His academic interests are computer linguistics and lexicography.

Rosa Isabel González Moreno

Rosa González is a Magister in Editorial Studies from the Caro y Cuervo Institute in Colombia and earned a Bachelor of English Philology and Languages from the National University of Colombia.She has ample experience in research, academic publishing, and teaching English as a second language. Her areas of interest are academic publishing and research in foreign languages. She is currently the Scientific Journal Coordinator at Universidad de La Salle.
